Off Road Go Karts
If you're in the market for an off road go kart, it's important to first get a little education about the product. When referring to off road go karts, “off road” simply means that it is not licensed to use on public roads, streets or highways. Go karts do not reach the speeds or offer the protection needed to drive along side full-size cars and trucks. For optimum safety, it's important to understand the difference between two types of go karts. There are go karts with a stub axle and go karts with 2-wheel drive.
Stub axle karts
This type of kart has one powered wheel and is not appropriate with rough, off-road use. These karts are generally designed for children and youth to use on flat surfaces. Safe riding surfaces include grass and asphalt. These karts have low maximum speeds, so they are not intended for use on hilly or rough terrain.
Two-wheel drive karts
This kind of kart is by far the most popular and provides the traction needed for hills, dirt and mud. These karts reach higher speeds and are intended for the older, more experienced driver. Dual passenger two-wheel drive karts are very popular.
Go kart safety
Always make sure the go kart is age appropriate for the driver. Larger, full-size karts reach high speeds and are intended for experienced teenagers or adults. Always make sure children are supervised by a responsible adult and that all riders wear a helmet and seat belt. Also, only use a stub axle kart on the appropriate terrain. Most go karts have roll bars or brush cages which provide increased safety in the rare event that a kart rolls over.
Off road go karts are fun for all ages! Remember never to use these karts on public roads. |
